In this article, a counselor shares her story of being overwhelmed and unable to meet her job duties due to being pulled out to cover a classroom. Her caseload is beyond the recommended by the American School Counselor Association, she described having over 600 students. Feeling guilty of being unable to fulfill her responsibilities to the students she questions her role as a counselor. "The Chicago Teachers Union is asking that the district enshrines in its contract a promise to hire more counselors, health workers, and librarians, and to free them from tasks outside of their core duties" (Goldstein, 2019). The walkouts have helped with adding more staff but, the salary is still not adequate and unfortunately leaves them feeling burned out.

Goldstein, D. (2019, October 24).
