Select 4 students and give each of them one rhythm flashcard

Have one student stand in front of the class, one on the left side, one behind, and one on the right side

The students will perform each rhythm pattern with a four beat rest in between

Bronze – Read the patterns (face forward and read first card, turn to the left and read the second card, turn left again and read the third card etc…)

Silver – Move to show the rhythm patterns as you read them out loud (ex…pat for ta, clap 2X for titi, and flick your fingers for quarter rest)

Gold – Play the rhythm patterns on rhythm instruments (do the same rotating pattern) without saying the patterns out loud!

For younger students

Level 1: Create 4 beat rhythm patterns using popsicle sticks

Level 2: Teach someone else how to read your pattern

Level 3: Combine patterns to create a rhythmic composition and read the entire pattern

For fun – Have the class teach their classroom teacher how to read their patterns

How do you Wokka Wokka (I'm sharing that one at MLC)

"Bounce Bounce" (K & 1) and "Pull the Anchor" (2nd) - Stretchy band activities from Jennifer Slay

"Meter Tag" (the game we played with Darva where they come out during their assigned 2/4, 3/4, 4/4 meter).

 

 

Also with that same class we reviewed 2/4 meter by doing a plate routine to youre a grand ole flag see attachment😊

I didn’t make it; I don’t remember who did. I use this nearly every year.

We also do a clap-along to the Trolls “Hair Up” song (and they hear how the original ITHOTMountainKing song is used as part of this new modern song: Lectura ritmica In the mountain king hall trolls - YouTube The kids love this and ask for it often. You can also put instruments to this instead of clapping, of course.

We also go through the Quaver activity that tells the story of what is happing in the ballet (type in “Mountain King” in the Quaver Resource Manager to find it).
