The picture of a city on a hill represents the idea the puritans had that the Massachusetts colony would be a model for other to look up to. The picture of the Un-American Activities committee shows the events that would inspire Arthur Miller to write "The Crucible," a play about the Salem witch trials. I find the background to the crucible really interesting, how so many people were accused and killed of being a witch with no evidence at all.
