The school has got some classes with Interactive White Boards and projectors and two labs: a computer lab and a video room. I have been training to use technology in the classroom and my students are enthusiastic.

I often use collaborative learning - task based activities so students can learn by doing. I started to flip some of my lessons following the Flipped Classroom approach. In this way, I'm re-organizing the learning time and trying to develop my students' digital skills, too.

Most rewarding:
To have more time to talk more with my students to know them better, to understand their interests, their ways of learning. I use collaborative activities (such as the ones in eTwinning projects) to discover their talents and social behaviours. it's not so easy when you spent only three hour lessons a week in six different classes with 20-24 students to learn everyone's own learning.
Biggest challenge:
My biggest challenge is to involve everyone of my students in class activities with motivation. I had and have some foreign students who really had/have difficulties with Italian Language and all related subjects (History, Literature, Geography) and Maths/Science but they were/are really great in Languages. I encourage them to develop and improve their language skills and continue studying them.
Professional development:
I have attended a lot of courses in the past and I continue my professional development everyday by attending courses and webinars. I like learning new things, I think life-long learning is the aim of a good teacher. I like trying new methods to make my lessons interactive and I believe this digital period forces us to keep up with technological progress and I want to be at the forefront.

Even if teenagers have knowledge in a pocket (on their smartphone) most of the times they don't use devices and new media to improve their education. That's a pity! I try to improve my students' formal and non-formal learning at school by creating activities based on Collaborative Learning and Project-based approach, but I'm trying to encourage them to develop their informal learning outside school by using nowadays means of communication, too.

They would have to use their data connection, too, this means family have to recharge their credits... I usually create a collaborative activity in class by asking students to practice dialogues in groups of three (waiter and two customers). Then I ask them what is her/his favourite dish or what can they cook. So I ask them to find and write the recipe of their favourite food. They will complete the activity at home by completing a Padlet. I sometimes have a laptop and an Interactive Monitor/projector but I have my devices, too. I have my smartphone, my iPad. They are hotspot, so I can make my students connect their devices to mine (at least 10), I have an old smartphone I can connect to my school wi-fi. I have my bluetooth speakers, I have my own projector and laptop, too.

In education, such a sharing culture can inspire other teachers and suggest new ideas. Adapting learning materials, completely or partly based on what others have already produced, allows you to have up-to-date resources, gives you the opportunity to differentiate and produce different materials for different profiles of learners, and enables you to add your own touch to the learning content.
It is important to respect the author’s rights. It is not because nowadays it is so easy to copy, paste and adapt. Copyright is a complex matter and varies from country to country, but teachers and students should be aware of the basics and be an example to students inside and outside the classroom.

Teachers can catch students' attention in different ways, there are a lot of strategies you can use to motivate and gain students' trust and respect.
When one of my students has a bad behaviour in the classroom, towards me or any of his/her mates, I often keep silence for a few seconds by looking at him/her and then ask questions on why and how he/she could behave better in the same situation, so I open a dialogue to understand the student and re-establish a positive atmosphere in the class.

Learning in online communities and networks differs from the traditional classroom learning.
Activity #13
I have already attended a lot of MOOCs, in English and Italian, on diverse topics according to my teaching methodologies and subject. I like this kind of professional development because it gives you the possibility to learn new learning activities, new teaching strategies and methods. You may improve your way of teaching and learning, you can create your repository of learning diaries where to collect resources for the future. You can learn how things work in other countries and you can share your teaching ideas and materials and benefit from other participants' ideas and materials.
Of course you always have a experts, tutors and mentors in these courses to help you learn in the best ways.
Here is a link to some of my Learning Diaries I've created for the MOOCs I've attended:
https://www.pearltrees.com/emilianarufo/partecipazione-formazione/id16641823
