Japan already knew they were done, so it wasn't our place to kill hundreds of innocent Japanese people. The military usually needs to be brave and fight for their country, but once the Atom Bomb was produced, they were all off the hook. Leaping with joy when they found out they didn't need to sacrifice themselves fighting Japan was unnecessary, alone. But the cause of this effect sets it even further from okay. Yes, it was great they all got to live but they did end up hurting hundreds of innocent people. "I know that Japan is a terribly cruel and uncivilized nation in warfare but I can't bring
myself to believe that, because they are beasts, we should ourselves act in the same
manner. For myself, I certainly regret the necessity of wiping out whole populations
because of the 'pigheadedness' of the leaders of a nation and, for your information, I am
not going to do it until it is absolutely necessary... My object is to save as many American
lives as possible but I also have a humane feeling for the women and children in Japan."

'Pigheadedness' he says was  the only "good" reason we had for dropping the atomic bomb. The Japanese were and still are people just as much as our own US citizens, so why did we need to go so much further and "rub it in their faces" that we had won?
