A gallery walk allows a teacher to set up several stations around the classroom with different objects, ideas, or concepts. Students will take turns at each station adding their thoughts and looking at the thoughts of other students in their class. This can be completed with drawings, writings, or other forms of communication. It allows students to visually process the class content and engage with their peers in the process.

https://whatihavelearnedteaching.com/classroom-engagement-strategies/

Virtual field trips allow teachers to show their students places through an engaging 360 degree experience. It allows students to visualize architecture and cultures in more detail than pictures. This can be completed in the classroom or through virtual learning environments. It can also allow students to explore places at their own pace if they are allowed to control the field trip individually.

https://whatihavelearnedteaching.com/classroom-engagement-strategies/

Brain breaks are great strategies for young students to help them remain focused on their work. These breaks can include stretching, dance videos, group talks, and other forms of physical engagement. They allow students to remove themselves from the learning environment for a short period of time so that they can come back focused and prepared to learn.

https://www.3plearning.com/blog/20-student-engagement-strategies-captivating-classroom/

Open-Ended Projects (3rd-5th, Students with Disabilities)

In this strategy, the teacher provides several categories that students can use to create projects. They have the opportunity to interpret the content in a way that makes sense to them and demonstrate it individually. This gives students autonomy, and allows students with disabilities to complete the project at their own pace and level. It takes away some levels of comparison within special education because every student is supposed to have a unique project.

https://www.weareteachers.com/student-engagement-strategies/

Learning Stations provide hands-on content practice for students. They can include multiple ways to process the same information or different learning concepts at each station. This strategy is extremely valuable for EL students because it allows them to process information in several different ways that can cater to the needs of a language barrier. Teachers can alter the stations to fit the needs of their specific EL students. It also provides extra practice to make sure that these students have time to process the content.

https://www.weareteachers.com/student-engagement-strategies/

Guest speakers are a great way to invite professional experience and new teaching strategies into the classroom while allowing the students to consider different ideas.

Content starters are warm-up problems or thinking prompts that allow students to prepare for the content in a lesson or subject. These can be provided virtually at the beginning of a topic to allow students to level into their content or it can be provided in the classroom during a subject-change to regain attention.
