This quote resonated with me quite a bit. A large part of the book is about dealing with the "hand you're dealt" and understanding that students don't have a choice in their hand either.

We are FLEXIBLE. Depending on how lessons and activities go, we need to be ready to switch to accommodate the lesson and the needs of the children. 
Empathy and clarity for children about how others see them. We care about our students and we understand that behaviors and beliefs are tied to emotion. Emotion jump starts change in the students.
