Entering the rainforest and plunging into its vegetation, its peace, its colors, is a unique experience. All in a very well kept national park. In this suggestive environment the waterfalls, those waterfalls that first Columbus saw when he landed on this earth. The waterfalls with their power, their impetuous appearance, the roar of the water that descends safely, we could almost say: the creativity of water and the vigor of the rock. Then a visit to an important rum distillery, a national drink for the people of Guadaloupe. Observing his preparation was a bit like witnessing an ancient process of the national tradition almost like a magical ritual. Today has been an example of knowledge of the local tradition, which fits well with the concept of internationalization and exchange.

"There are times, almost all times, that I prefer to look at the world through a glass of rum"

Today we enjoyed a new side of Guadaloupe Island, the rainforest in Chute de Carbet. We walked along the rainforest , in such a deep contact with nature.

I walked in the rainforest amazed and kidnapped by the beauty of its luxuriant nature.
The waterfalls are located near the village of Saint-Sauveur, they are even mentioned in the logbook of Christopher Columbus.

And when I saw the falls and I thought that these were the first thing that Columbus saw from his vessel when he landed on this land, I really got excited!

.It was very interesting the visit to the Rhum Distillery because the rhum is important in Guadaloupe traditions . We visited the only Distillery in Guadalupe with its own sugar cane plantation.

The production of rum is part of the Guadeloupe tradition from the cultivation of the first sugar cane fields. Here are produced 2 types of rum: the agricultural rum that is obtained with the juice of sugar cane, and industrial rum, also called traditional, which comes from molasses, a residue of the manufacture of sugar.

“There is nothing that calms the spirit like the rhum”

Being in the rainforest today taught us about how different the nature is at Guadeloupe. Yesterday we were in the middle of the amazing turquoise reef in Ilet de Gosier and today we walked the most beautiful path in the moistures rain forest of Basse Terre.
We read session 7 beforehand and were aware of all the Key Competences and ideas for international work, described in our course material. Being in Guadeloupe has made me think a lot about environmental issues as; global warming, global changes in eco-systems, plastic in the oceans, dying reefs and human made changes in nature in general. I think it's because we have read and reflected about what it means to be a global citizen. Being in the wild growing rain forest gave me a lot of ideas to future international projects about taking care and responsibility for our planet. I really want to do the best I can do.

"The Earth is what we all have in common"
-Wendell Berry
