Men were never harsh with their wives and were advised to divorce only if they were insane. <mark>All women had equal rights to men in all aspects </mark>and women could also obtain an equal education, however drinking was seen as wrong for them.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li><ul><li>Ban Zhao's <em>Lessons for Women</em> clearly defined the role of women in society and dictated customs and traditions of women. One of the traditions is that a newborn girl must be placed under the bed in order to signify her submission and role in society to that of man.</li><li>Women were not allowed to be educated.&nbsp;</li><li>The Three Submissions were defined by Confucianism and stated that women had to submit to men at all points in their lives. She submitted to her father when she was young, her husband when she was married, and her son when she was widowed.</li><li>The primary role of women was childbearing, raising children, and household duties such as cooking and cleaning.&nbsp;</li><li>Women had no say in any family matters except those related to child raising.&nbsp;</li><li>The exceptions to this rule were the empresses of the Dynasty. If they succeeded in getting their young son to the throne, they could act as a de facto emperor.&nbsp; &nbsp;</li><li><br></li></ul></li></ul><div><br></div>]]></description>
