         <description><![CDATA[<p>Date: December 7th, 1941</p><p>Strategy: Secure oil in the Dutch East Indies by attacking US territories, starting with bombing Pearl Harbor as a gateway into other territories. It was Japanese hope that the US would not recover fast and counterattack.</p><p>Tactics: US naval fleet attacked by Japanese naval fleet. ^ Japanese aircraft carriers launched 353 planes of several types. They attacked US navy ships, airfields, aircraft’s and facilities with torpedoes, bombs and machine- gun fire</p><p>Technology: Aircraft carriers were a game changing weapon in the attack on Pearl Harbor.          <title>Battle of the Philippines</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>date of battle: December 8th, 1941<br>strategy: Japan saw the Philippines as an addition to their desire to pursue expansion. The resources of the Philippines were appealing to Japan. Along with this, the fear of aerial attacks was not prevalent due to the death of General Douglas A. MacArthur. <br>tactics: This battle was fought through naval weapons. Both parties fought the battle in the ocean through the use of various ships and submarines in order to attack one another. Japan wanted to destroy enemy vessels before they hit the shoreline. <br>technology: The US navy consisted of cruisers, airplane tenders, destroyers, submarines and oilers. Japan was equip with 5,000 conventional aircrafts, suicide vehicles such as kamikaze planes, submarines and piloted bombs.<br>any other relevant practices of war.<br>Explain its significance: The Battle of the Philippines stopped the Japanese from carrying out larger carrier actions. <br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>date of battle: June 15, 1944</p><p>strategy: Island of Saipan was used by the US as a bomber base to directly bomb Japan. They were looking to defeat Japan in the Pacific. </p><p>tactics: the US utilized their new B-29 bombers directly at Japans home islands. US won this battle after trapping Japanese soldiers at the northern part of the island of Saipan.</p><p>technology: B-29 bombers were new technology for the US military, and were used to strike the islands of Japan directly. Japan came with gunboats.</p><p>Explain its significance: This battle was significant because Saipan became the first B-29 bomber base in the Pacific. This was considered a turning point in the war. </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>date of battle or action: April 1st to June 21st 1945<br>strategy: US hoped to get Japan to surrender through their presence in Okinawa because it places them within bombing distance of Japan as well as Japanese military targets stationed in China<br>&nbsp;tactics: 200,000 troops, 1200 ships, 40 carriers and 18 battleships were used by the US and allies.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;technology<br>Explain its significance: The significance of Okinawa was that it fostered an environment in which the US felt the need to take more action in order to get Japan to surrender, so they utilized two atomic bombs which led to the end of WWII because Japan surrendered.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>With every action of battle, the intention has been to scare/ assert dominance over another country. This ultimately gets to the point in which a country must surrender due the damage and destruction done. The US was well prepared for war as well as post war, while the Japanese empire crumbled after to much fighting. All battles dealt with immense violence and left the other in shambles. These battles all built up and led to the surrendering of Japan, therefore ending WWII.</div>]]></description>
