Online learning is justified by the lack of time of a person to stick to schedules; it's more flexible. On the contrary, in face to face education the student would have to comply with attendance and presential meetings to carry out tasks and receive instruction. 

In my personal opinion, we need to make use of both modalities as in online learning we can use a more self-directed or self-paced learning, and in the face to face learning we can be instructor led and supported.
