Bitcoin mining uses a lot of energy making it more and more harmful to the environment as it grows. However, many people will not stop the mining because of the chance of losing out given there is only a set number of bitcoins that can be produced. Right now trees are being cut down at a rate way faster than they can grow. We all know that trees are vital to the environment, but big lumber companies won't stop cutting down trees even though it is harmful to the environment, because of the profitability. For years it has been known that emissions from cars have been very harmful to the environment. But, regardless of the fact people still need cars so they are going to spend the money on the car even though it is going to cause harm to the environment. Manufacturers are still going to take the money every time even though they know it is harmful to the environment. Of all the industries I have talked about I think the automotive in particular, is the closest to not being a tragedy of the commons.
