Mrs. Mallard's sister, Josephine, had to tell her about his death, but she had to tell her very subtle because Mrs. Mallard has heart trouble. While Louise is at her house she begins to think of how life will be like now that Brently is not with her anymore. She starts to have realize that she is free from her husband and she starts to cry from relief. Josephine hears her sobs and her yelling, so she comes and tries to help her. At first Louise does not open her door to let Josephine in, but she eventually opens the door. When she comes out the front door opens and she sees her husband. A friend of Josephine's, Richard, tries to cover Mr. Mallard, but it was too late. Mrs. Mallard sees her husband and that causes her to  remember what it was like when he was around. This piece of imagery is significant to the story, because when she opens her arms out to welcome them in she is accepting her husbands death and ready to start her own life. This piece of imagery is significant because when Louise dies it shows how shocked she was, and how disappointed she felt from seeing her husband come in. Josephine knew Louise was crying because she was free.
