A; The truancy policy will address both issues. Chronic truancy will be addressed over an extended period of time. We will approach class-cutting in a more direct approach.

A; Students will show as social probation when scanned by Plasco at after-school events.

When a teacher sends a student on a pass to the tech. Center or the library, should the teacher mark the student present or absent?

A: We should mark them absent if they go at the beginning of the period and Plasco will correct attendance.

A: Please take attendance at the beginning of each class period.

When students come late to class, by 15 minutes or more, should we (can we) mark them as absent? How do you account for these students?

A: All students should come to class with a pass. Please check the time on the pass. If a student comes in with a pass that was written 10 minutes ago, please use the online referral for class cut.

Red/Blue Day Communication

Is there a universal way that we can communicate which day (red day/blue day) to the freshman students taking health/PE?

Perhaps someone could say (today is a blue/red day) each day or maybe after weekends during announcements? Maybe it could be put on the rotating announcement TV screens in the cafeteria.

Students are often confused on Mondays or after extended weekends/breaks.

A: PE/Health classes are going back to semester scheduling.

What rooms will be used for detentions?

A: Curriculum Coordinators will complete both formal and informal evaluations.

How are we going to use student tests scores (ACT?) if a teacher only teachers freshmen and sophomores?

A: The student propensity score will be used to calculate student growth. This score is calculated by multiple tests throughout their academic career.

Are we still using the Merit/Demerit System

A: Yes

We do need to get away from the belief that students who accumulate demerits will automatically move to an alternative setting. Most students who do not pose an immediate threat will continue at West High. The current system is designed as an internal tracking tool to assist Student Services in implementing interventions.

How should we handle a situation where a student wants to use the bathroom but they don't have their passbook?
