To achieve that we use the following approaches:</div><ul><li>Enabling people to leave slavery – through exemplar&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;frontline projects with local partners, building their capacity to&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;effectively tackle human rights abuses through research and awareness&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;raising in their own countries&nbsp;</li><li>Helping victims of slavery – with frontline work&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;ensuring they access the psychological and legal support they need to&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;recover and obtain justice and compensation&nbsp;</li><li>Supporting the empowerment of people to be better&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;protected from slavery – again working at grass roots level, to help&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;communities demand respect for their human rights and tackle the root&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;causes of slavery through access to education and the elimination of caste&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;and gender inequality &nbsp;</li><li>Identifying ways in which abuses can be brought to an&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;end, demonstrating how our frontline work empowers individuals and&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;communities to sustainably leave, or obtain protection from, slavery&nbsp;</li><li>Our advocacy and programme work are closely linked, as&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;we convey to key decision makers the messages of victims and&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;recommendations from local partners for an effective eradication of&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;slavery.&nbsp;</li></ul><div><strong><br></strong>5. People who hear their message will take more time to think about it and it might impact their actions. It’s good that they aren’t just helping those who are already slaves, but that they are also stopping kids from becoming slaves so that more kids won’t have to experience that.<br><br>6. They are funded by donations. Your donation could:</div><div>• ensure that all victims of trafficking in the UK have their rights protected and are given access to non-conditional assistance</div><div>• provide vulnerable women with information about the risks of migration and domestic work</div><div>• help meet the costs of an investigator to gather evidence of forced labour</div><div>• contribute to the education of children of bonded labourers&nbsp;</div><div>• help meet the costs of medical services, counselling and shelter for people recently rescued from slavery</div><div>• help pay for a social worker in a shelter for migrant domestic workers who have escaped their abusive employers</div><div>• contribute towards the costs of pursuing through the court the cases of former victims of slavery&nbsp;</div><div><br>7. OUR STRATEGY<br><br></div><div><br></div><div>We received charity status on August 23, 2011 – the same day UNESCO proclaimed International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and of its Abolition in 1998. Celebrations occur in a number of countries, including Haiti, paying special tribute to the night of 22-23 August 1791 when the uprising of slaves took place in Santo Domingo and led, later on, to the creation of the first Black independent State, the Republic of Haiti. This uprising set forth events which played a major role in the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade. The International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition also pays tribute to those who fought and worked hard to legally abolish the slave trade and slavery throughout the world. We are officially incorporated and registered as a charitable organization under the name Canadians Against Slavery / Canadiens contre l'esclavage (84068 5119 RR0001). Our trade name is Alliance Against Modern Slavery / Alliance contre l'esclavage moderne.<br><br></div><div><br></div><div>&nbsp;<br><br></div><div><br></div><div>5.
