Thus I read some extracts of Phillip Pullman's essays on storytelling. After reading through highlighting and dissecting the text I found there was many ways of story telling and how I could achieve it. One of the first ones and important one was there is multiple perspectives to a story, how can I show that, also is it necessary in a work of non fiction. This made me think what perspective I needed to take when writing this historical figures story, should I state facts or give it a little spruce up. It was something I haven't used before but was fun and interesting to see the outcome. We used the same printing press that is used for dry point but a different method. We had to cut out the shapes and drawings we wanted and used them as negatives when we printed the ink onto the paper so our little cut out drawings would leave the paper white. This was a long process but I was happy with the outcome. Since I decided to do a children's book I decided to research some other non fiction children's books. This is a sweet book, that beautifully illustrates each figure in a very child like manner, as well as small illustrations throughout. Each page is either a block of writing or an illustration, this is something I want to move away from as it is common with children's books I want to have illustrations spanning across both pages with text on both sides, but also have a page or two of full text, but only that many as I don't want the whole book to look like that. I also don't want to go for the very children's illustrative look, but somewhat Egyptian esc since I will be writing my book on Hatshepsut so I want the illustrations to go with the theme and life of the historical figure. ]]> 2020-05-29 12:50:42 UTC https://padlet.com/sah1374/a66unvyqskbg0ov9/wish/601083676 sah1374 https://padlet.com/sah1374/a66unvyqskbg0ov9/wish/601095500 Gender A Graphic Guide by Meg-John Barker and Jules Scheele, it is a non fiction graphic novel that focuses on gender as a whole, deconstructing how we look at gender and sex and what it is and isn't. This book is one of my favourite books and I instantly thought about it when starting this project. It puts gender theory into an interesting and easy way. Rather than having huge clumps of text it gets straight to the point and tells you what it is with accompanying illustrations to make the point even more clearer. I'm interested in something like this making a graphic novel but historical, I will look into this idea and see if I want to pursue with it. I also really like the layout how the majority of the page is illustration in compared to the text, which is another aspect I'd like to explore.]]> 2020-05-29 12:57:49 UTC https://padlet.com/sah1374/a66unvyqskbg0ov9/wish/601095500 sah1374 https://padlet.com/sah1374/a66unvyqskbg0ov9/wish/601114405 Moonhead the Music Machin by Andrew Rae is a graphic novel about a kid with a moon as a head. This is a fun and wacky graphic novel novel really caught my eye, as it had so many pages with so much range it helped give me an entire new perspective of how to frame a page. Each page tells a part of the story and it is what you do with it that makes the story flow. When produce my work I will think about how I want my illustrations framed whether that be an illustration to an entire page or multiple in one, I will have to think about the layout of what I am going to make. This magazine has a new theme every edition and gets 45 artists to illustrate a double spread page or create a 4 page comic in response to the theme. This issue is on studio dreams, and each artist took their own inspiration and take on what that could mean. Every person has their own perspective of what studio dreams could mean and throughout this issue you can see that. Each artists also has to adhere to a specific colour scheme as well, to which they are limited to, this makes the book look incredibly good the colour scheme works very well. I love the idea of a colour scheme and is certainly something I want to explore, I also want to experiment with different styles of drawings and textures to see what I can make when producing for the same theme.
