Collett, Teresa Stanton. "Teens Should Not Be Allowed an Abortion Without Parental Consent." Teens at Risk, edited by Christine Watkins, Greenhaven Press, 2009. Opposing Viewpoints. Opposing Viewpoints in Context, http://link.galegroup.com/apps/doc/EJ3010167279/OVIC?u=bcps&xid=7a8891b0. Accessed 21 Feb. 2018. Originally published as "Transporting Minors for Immoral Purposes: The Case for the Child Custody Protection Act & the Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act," ssrn.com, 9 Jan. 2006

This article tries to persuade the reader that abortion should not be available to people under the age of 18 without parental consent. Last year alone, more than 1,500 unmarried minors received abortions without parental consent. 45% of abortions by minors have no parental involvement, which could be a potentially bad thing. Parents of the pregnant teens could help the teens raise the babies and help them go through the pregnancy. In some cases, the abortion could have been avoided.

Teresa Stanton Collett is a Law Professor who teaches at the University of St. Thomas. She uses a very insightful, intelligent tone to convey her point that abortion for teens should be illegal. All of the information was relevant to the time of the article. All of the evidence in this article was data based.

This article is relevant to my argument because it will help me to add some details that support the opposing side of my argument so that I can refute them.

B1

Police Brutality (Against Police)

The main idea of the article “Police Brutality” is that it should be stopped and how police tend to target colored people or minorities. In Boston 63.3% of all traffic stops were minorities and less than 25% of the city population is African American. Also in New York, police stopped and frisked 22,939 times and 83% of them were black or Latino. Also in Missouri, blacks were 85% of traffic stops and 93% were arrested.

The author did have a biased point of view towards police brutality. The author is biased towards the fact majority of the police are racist and discriminate against minorities. Majority of the traffic stops and arrest were of black people. Police would pull over black people just because of the color of their skin and ticket them or question them. The number of stops on black people are higher than the percentages of the population of black people.

This article was very useful in providing support for research and evidence for the argument. This article will help me understand and dispute the opposing views because it gives me an opportunity to look at each side and understand what people think and why they think that way.

http://ic.galegroup.com/ic/ovic/topic/actionWin?scanId=&query=&prodId=OVIC&showDisambiguation=true&p=OVIC&mode=view&catId=GALE%7CKCCBNB910131589&u=bcps&limiter=&contentModules=&displayGroups=&display-query=&action=e&windowstate=normal&resetBreadCrumb=

Singer, Peter. "The Choice of a Pregnant Woman Always Outweighs the Life of a Fetus." Ethics, edited by Noël Merino, Greenhaven Press, 2015. Opposing Viewpoints. Opposing Viewpoints in Context, http://link.galegroup.com/apps/doc/EJ3010431266/OVIC?u=bcps&xid=a1b93f4f. Accessed 27 Feb. 2018. Originally published as "The Real Abortion Tragedy," www.project-syndicate.org, 13 Aug. 2012

The main idea discussed in this article is that outlawing abortion will not stop it from happening it will only make it more dangerous. Singer gives evidence and states that in Africa and Latin America abortion is outlawed but there is an average of about 29 deaths still occurring from illegal abortions. Also he states that unsafe abortions that are conducted leads to about 47,000 deaths in women each year. Lastly he states that in Western Europe abortion is legal and only about 12 women die on average due to abortion. This evidence supports that outlawing abortions will only make it more unsafe for the mothers.

Singer is a well-known writer and a philosopher. When reading the article his bias is not present he uses many facts and logos to support his argument that outlawing abortion is going against rights of women and will only make it more dangerous. The authors tone is persuasive and argumentative. He is trying to get his argument across by presenting facts and trying to convince readers that outlawing abortion is not a good idea. Singer writes a short article however all the information is presented in a way that is very compelling. He provides statistics from other countries that have and don’t have abortion, and gives the statistics that show abortion in favor.

This article will be very useful when providing support for my research because the statistics are very reliable and show abortion in a different light when it is outlawed. It shows a different perspective then how abortion is usually showed. It is mostly for the babies however this shows in perspective for the mother and how it will affect her. This will help when reading an opposing view because it will show me one side of the argument.
