As time went on, Puritanism gained more support until the so called Puritans eventually got a strong foot hold in both the New World and England. A lot of reform over Puritanism and Protestants happened during the mid 1600's. Puritans wanted to mainly purify the Church of England and the Roman Catholics. While some wanted to completely separate themselves from the Church, others just wanted reform. Due to the fact that Puritans were very close to God, they wanted drunkenness and swearing to be punishable by England. Puritans also wanted to change the way that Church Service was held. This varied from what the Priest wore all the way to what actually was happening during the Service. Puritans were influenced by Calvinism and wanted everyone to have a strong connection with God. Most forms of Puritan legacy is found in literature and not many other places. In that said literature, it is stereotyped heavily, with modern day American culture not helping to quell the misleading way Puritans are looked at. The true legacy of Puritans however is really that they had the ideology of freedom, which were the building blocks for the America seen today. _{Huswifery is the job of being a housewife, cleaning, cooking, taking care of the house. Puritans had strong religious beliefs, they believed god had a special agreement with them, and they were to live according to the scripture. This poem is specifically a prayer for god to cleanse their souls. This need to be pure is seen in the first line, “O Lord, Thy spinning-wheel complete.” This line first introduces the idea that the lord has a spinning wheel, then in the line “And make my soul Thy holy spool to be.” they ask the lord to put their souls to use, to cleanse them. The last stanza is really important because puritans act according to the lord and his desires, they want to model themselves after him and show others their devout faith. They use an overarching metaphor of spinning clothes, the lord taking their souls and turning them into a beautiful model garment.}

_{This piece is written in a descriptive style. This piece does not contain any of the author's opinions or bias. Instead it paints a picture of the Lord “weaving” their souls and dying their clothes “all pink with varnished flowers of paradise”. Its ornate, colorful, complex. There isn’t a specific rhyming scheme but it does contain rhythm. The poem is written in first person, there is a lot of me’s and I’s. The tone of this poem is very wishful and faithful, the whole poem Taylors simply wants to express faith.}
