In The x Factor the cameras go from one shot to the next. The use of multi - camera means that there is a constant upbeat change of perspective and direction. Doing this allows the audience to see the judges reactions in important parts , different audience reactions and then the performers themselves. The constant change in shots from one camera to the next keeps the audience engaged. When close ups and pan shots are used its showing effort from the performer. There is also a constant use of graphics showing logos which informs the viewers what they are watching. The X Factor also likes to have writing at the bottom of the screen stating who is performing to let the audience know who it is and also who they can call to save on the show. They tend to slow shots down when looking at the performer and when they are walking on stage to make it more dramatic and intense. A lot of it is upbeat and fast to keep things moving quickly and to show new things on the screen to keep the audience engaged with the TV. The music in which they use on the show depends on the scenario. So for instance , when the performing has their " sob story " slow music will be used.

The target audience for this show will be between the ages 8-85. This is because some young kids enjoy watching people sing and show their talents. I believe it is aimed at families as it is on at at a suitable time. If anybody swears it is censored out but usually it is a non-swearing family friendly programme. I feel like it is aimed at the middle class and also the lower class. For the ethnicity of this show I think it will be all ethnicities as people from different countries come to go on the x factor. The sexuality of the programme will be all as , homosexual and straight contestants do and are allowed on the show.

The main purpose of the Graham Norton show is to entertain the audience with up to date topics and various celebrity guests. There a different types of codes and conventions on the Graham Norton show as they use a lot of graphics , he has the name of his show written behind him on a screen and graphics are also used in the opening credits and the ending credits of the show. The structure of the show involves welcoming the guests , catch up of topics that have been going on throughout the week the guests are then introduced and then at the end a band or singer will perform. The set of the show is set out in a comfy way. They use chairs and sofas to make everything see more homely just as if they was just at home having a casual chat. The set is always lit up very brightly with the audience in the dark.

The target audience for this show would be between the ages 18-60 as a lot of the humour is hard to understand and the show itself is mainly based on adult celebrities going on the show to be interviewed. I feel like it is aimed at middle class as it is quite a chatty and very informal show and sometimes inappropriate language is used. For the ethnicity I believe it could be aimed at all ethnicity's as people from other backgrounds could come on to the show. But i think it is mainly aimed at British people as the humour is British and the presenter is British and the show itself is British. The sexuality of this show will be aimed at all as the presenter himself is homosexual and also homosexual contestants could come on the show.

A recce is a plan of the location which you are going to film at. They are done so you know what it looks like , you know the facilities around the location and so you also know whether there will be any disruptions. It is also mainly to check how safe the location is going to be. The amount of access needs to also be checked because of if you was going to be filming a big production a lot of loading may need to be done. There needs to be a lot of space and possible hazards need to be noticed. The weather also needs to be checked for the day of the filming as it could effect it. Forecast of the weather must also be checked. Also when going down to the location you can look around and find good places for props to be placed. Efficiency needs to be carried out as you need to figure out where plug sockets will go and how many lights will need fitting.

A risk assessment is something you identify possible risks on. These are things that possibly could occur whilst filming. Risks such as , Lights over heating and people burning themselves , Heavy objects falling , Trip hazards from lights and cameras , public disturbance , weather etc. On a risk assessment a solution to it is also always wrote out. A risk assessment is important when filming on location or in studio because they form a integral part of a health and safety management plan. They help create awareness when on set.

They also have to make sure their content isn't inappropriate or harmful and they will have to get clearance from OFCOM.

Meaning is communicated in studio shows by using specific special effects to give it more realism and energy and to make the audience enjoy the show. Its also communicated by using Multi camera this is because it keeps the audience engaged at all times as one camera is on the audience themselves , another is a big shot of the whole stage and the other will be a close up of the performer. In the X Factor we see this in the performance as there is close up shots of the performer and then it will quickly change over to the audience and also the judges to show their reactions this creates meaning in the studio because it shows the audience the emotions they are feeling.

The clothes she is wearing also matches the visual style of it being an elegant performance as she has her hair tied back and is wearing a long dress which makes her look respectable. Lamp-tons are also used in this show so when the cameras do a birds eye view you see them all lit up. The lighting is an orangery colour giving the effect of fire and that also a visual effect because he song is called " set fire to the rain " so it resembles well.

How is meaning communicated to the viewer on the Graham Norton show?

Meaning is created to the viewer when they used specific camera techniques. For example , when showing emotion of one of the guests the camera will zoom into their faces to be able to show the emotion more clearly. This communicates with the audience because it helps them feel what they are feeling. When Adele is performing on stage the camera zooms into the people playing the violins - this creates meaning to the audience by showing what instruments they are playing and getting it across to them that it is an elegant performance. The vision mixer cuts between the guests and the presenter to again show emotion. So when the presenter asks the guest a question the camera will be on them but when they guest answers the question the camera will then go to the guest. This makes it look like a real conversation and makes the audience feel like they are included in it.

The constraints of using a television show are that it is quite small so there wont be a lot really to film apart from the interview area and the performance area. The performance area is quite small on the Graham Norton show so not much will be able to happen.

Action covered includes the interview room which is the main stage where Graham interviews all of his guests. This is the main centre stage in the studio which is used the most. The performance stage which is used when musical performers come on the show is another stage in the studio. This one isn't used as much and it isn't a very big stage either. The techniques used are handheld such as cameras which will be on tripods but will be psychically moved around to get the best shot. Cranes may be used with cameras to get the birds eye look of a performance like on the video of Adele performing.

In this performance at the Glastonbury festival Dua Lip the performer who's genre of music is pop / electropop is wearing bright coloured clothing. This is a visual style as the song is quite girly so her dress sense being quite bright colours relates to the song a lot. Its a visual style because her song is pop genre and pop is a young popular style of music so she wants to wear stuff that implies she is young herself and that she is generally a happy person by the fact she is wearing bright clothing. Another visual style used is the red background and lights. This is a visual style in this performance as the colour relates to the song as the song is about relationships and love and red is associated with love.

At this festival we see one big main stage where the performance takes place. This is a multi camera production so one camera will be on the audience another camera will be on the performer or occasionally a wide angled shot of the stage and then the third camera will be zoomed up close possibly to one of the instruments being played in the background. Cranes will be used at the Glastonbury festival when doing a birds eye view of the stage and the festival - sometimes a helicopter might fly over to get a really high up view of it- this is done to show the audience what the festival looks like and to show the audience how much the audience at the festival is enjoying it. When one of the cameras cuts to the audience this is done to show the reactions of the audience and to show them enjoying themselves and singing along with the performer.

The audience is shown in the coverage to create excitement and to show them dancing and singing along to the performer. This shows to the audience at home the excitement of the festival and makes them consider wanting to go the following year. Different upbeat cuts using the vision mixer depends on the speed of the song. So if the performer is singing a slow song - slow cuts will be done. If it is a fast song then the vision mixer will cut to the beat of the song meaning fast cuts with be used.
