         <description><![CDATA[<div>     Throughout the play, Miller develops the main women characters from the victims into the culprits of the offenses. He does this to show how the women took charge after being wrongfully accused to protect themselves. Miller's theme is that the oppression of women have caused them to unite against the wrongdoings forced upon them.</div>]]></description>

When the accusations get turned on Mary, she betrays the truth and goes for the safest route out, by joining the other lying women. This shows how Mary Warren lied to protect herself, and unified with the women instead of Proctor. </div>]]></description>
