Aquatic Invasives Reflection by Bridget Lis

First, go to this website: https://www.nature.org/en-us/about-us/where-we-work/priority-landscapes/great-lakes/great-lakes-aquatic-invasive-species-/#jump-body_storytelling
1. What is a cause of aquatic invasives in the great lakes? (more specific than just ‘humans’)
2. What is a concern of aquatic invasives in the great lakes?
Then, view the map here: https://nas.er.usgs.gov/queries/SpeciesAnimatedMap.aspx?speciesID=5
3. What patterns do you see with the spread of zebra mussels over time?

A cause of aquative invasives in the great lakes are caused by human activities, mainly through ships and/or purchases for bait or aquariums. 2. One concern relating to the invasive species in the great lakes is how they are able to disrupt native species and/or food webs. 3.

1-One cause of aquatic invasive species in the great lakes is humans. Humans are accused for this most likely because they are transported around to "help" support other species, while it may not be the right thing to do. This could also be from boats bringing the mussels back and forth in the ballast water.

2-One of the common concerns of aquatic invasive species is that they could kill off many other species, or even destroy their habitat and resources. A way to solve this could be the Gobi. The Gobi keep the mussels in check, causing them to stay away for a bit.

3-The zebra mussels began in the great lakes,(Lake Erie) then just slowly grew out and expanded more and more, and even got to California. This is over time from transportation.
