History of UDL:  Grew out of the universal design movement in architecture and product development by Ronald Mace.  The Universal design calls for the “the design of products and environments to be usable by all people, to the greatest extent possible, without the need for adaptation or specialized design"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Design_for_Learning

Uses a variety of teaching methods to remove any barriers to learning and give all students equal opportunities to succeed.

Representation:  different ways to expose and present information.  Example.  CPR compressions are in text book format, pictures, flow charts and videos.  The videos also use music associated with the visual to enhance the representation. 

Action and expression:  More than one way to interact with the material.  Written tests, interactive evaluations, oral presentations and group projects

Engagement: Finding and using ways to motivate learners with relevant assignments, enhance skill building through activates that feel more like game play vs assessment;  scenarios that are job relevant
