In Emile Durkheim's structural functionalism, each aspect of society works together to create the whole society. If one part of the community goes wrong, the rest of the people will work together to help fix that part. This ultimately brings steadiness and a successful society.

Marx's Social Conflict “Catch a man a fish, and you can sell it to him. Teach a man to fish, and you ruin a wonderful business opportunity.” -Karl Marx

According to the social conflict theory, there are inequalities that occur in society which creates issues and changes. Society is not working together, but rather against each other for individual privilege and benefits. This is demonstrated in the quote because Marx ironically shows that people selfishly think about their business and money rather than helping others.

According to George Herbert Mead's symbolic interactionism, humans use symbols to attach a meaning to what we see or experience. An example of this would be how the word, "earring," is simply a series of letters that create a word. However, our interactions and experiences lead us to use that word as a symbol for a piece of jewelry that we wear on our ears.

Postmodernity occurs when modernity has failed, there is less progress occurring, science is proven wrong, cultural differences are happening and social establishments change. It is a result of the postindustrial economy and the Information Revolution. This cartoon demonstrates postmodernity because something that was once believed is proven to be wrong or different.

In Max Weber's modernization, societies become current by discovering, expanding, creating and learning. The societies will grow to learn and become what they did not know before. However, in the future, the society will change to adapt to a new version of modernity. The Crash Course on modernization goes further into this explanation!
