On June ninth, I observed the people in Abe's African Hair Braiding Salon. I got there at 3:45 and was observing for two hours. There were 15 people around. There was an age range of people from ages eight to forty. Five of the fifteen people were on their phone. There were two groups of people. There were the hair stylists and the people who were getting their hair done.

The hair stylists were conversing while doing people's hair. On the other hand, the people that were getting their hair done were on their phones. People were playing games, talking, or listening to music on their phones. After the hair stylist was finished with her job, even she decided to go on her phone. I saw one girl with her father. Her father was on his phone while the little girl was waiting to leave. I wonder if she had a phone because she looked like she was about eight years old. I had a phone, but I was too busy getting my hair done to use it.
In the end, it was mostly the parents that were on their phones which surprised me. I believed it would be mostly the kids who were on the phone since they grew up in a technology filled world. Instead, it seems the the grownups were more emersed in her phones.
Finally, I realized that people still communicate in large groups by talking. In addition, I learned that grow ups are adapting to technology just as teens are.
