She migrated from Jalisco, Mexico in the 1980's so that her children could be closer to their father. In the U.S., she has successfully raised three children on her own and has been able to open her own business. She is an owner of a beauty salon in Riverside, CA. The house sat in the back of a long, dirt road near a canal. "Aqui me van a matar" thought Imelda as she arrived the first time. Everything felt lonely and they were surrounded by white Americans.
