The name derives from the root of verb 달래다 (dallaeda) meaning "to soothe, calm, comfort" because they were formed as a way for the members to relax, have fun, and heal at the end of a long week. 

Their name is a homonym, also meaning Korean mountain chives, so they use a lot of that imagery in branding—including the herb emoji on sns.

The band formed a few months after the three founding members met in an elective Music History class and found they all enjoyed making music, even if only one of them was a music major.
