         <description><![CDATA[<div>One of the thing that sticking with me is how Canada entered the war (automatically) and who was initially eager to join (British-born Canadians). It's also interesting to me who weren't eager to be soldiers (farmers, French Canadians) and who weren't allowed to be soldiers (Black Canadians, enemy aliens). There's also Aboriginal Canadians who were allowed to fight in WWI, but in specialized roles.&nbsp;<br><br>I was struck by the psychological effects of WWI: that individual people's lives were ruined and there was a linger effect on people and the times afterwards. "A psychological rip in the fabric of the country."</div>]]></description>
