The Civil War occurred because of economy tensions and an inbalance between the North and South during Abraham Lincoln's presidency. Political and human rights like slavery also played a role but weren't the center point. This date is important because when the North won, it established freedom for Americans and created an indivisible nation.

The 14th amendment granting rights for former enslaved people in the country. This played a significant role because formally enslaved people were now granted citizenship with equal protection under the law . Not only did this benefit colored people, but for people from different nationalities born in America to become official citizens. This amendment is also in action today making it that important.
