The atom is mistakenly viewed as a concrete object which prevents the understanding of a mental model of the atom based on quantum concepts.  The misconceptions refer to the fundamentals of quantum chemistry such as not&nbsp;recognising an orbital as a mathematical function and understanding the atomic orbital as an electron path. </div>]]></description>
