Middle income countries have seen changes in diet as there are more people moving from the poverty cycle to the middle income sector and earning more money. When these people are able to earn more money it suggests that they have more disposable income (more money to spend) on goods and services which may not be considered necessities. With more disposable income at hand, the middle income earners tend to gravitate towards cheaper food retailers in order to spend more of their income on luxurious items such as technology or fashion.
