Source: Once or twice a month, the Japanese government had a ration for meat or fish. There were also days for rations for sugar and rice...You had to queue up in the market whenever the ration came. You had to go a few hours ahead to queue...and it was up to the whims and fancies of the seller to give you the type of rations..You could not complain...so you just keep quiet and took it. The food could still be eaten.
Source type: Written
Time period: 1942
Area of research: Food
Inference: This tells me that the lives of teenager in Singapore is miserable.
Explaination: This shows that sometimes they have to wait for a long time to get their food and sometimes even after they queued for so long, they might not even get anything. Some of them even starve to death because of having insufficient food and they might fall sick.

The Japanese Occupation made a huge change to the lives of teenager in Singapore. Ever since Japanese Occupation started, almost all the people in Singapore had insufficient of food, most teenagers were forced to start working at a young age and adults were forced work harder in order to earn more money just so that they can buy food. They also learnt how to grow crops since they didn't had enough food during the Japanese Occupation . They also learnt to be patient when doing what they were told to by the Japanese, they also didn't complain and instead appreciate whatever they won at that point of time since they knew that if they were caught doing something that the Japanese didn't like, they would be doomed. Most of the time, the teenagers do not have the luxurious life like us right now, having scrumptious meals for all meals. Instead, they were forced to eat what was given as there were no option. Example; if the only food left were leftovers, they would also have to eat them no matter what, mainly for survival. Now, after Japanese Occupation, things are more advanced, more people have a lot more food choices and more freedom when choosing what to eat. Food can be found almost everywhere. Without the Japanese controlling us, everyone is now free from torture and now students can also study peacefully and not need to work at a young age while studying just to earn more money for food.
Words: 248
