The FSA used her photos as an example of how terribly treated these immigrants were and how gruesome the conditions were. These photos also aided in government camps with better shelter and sanitation.

This painting shows the more common life of immigrants who couldn't find homes. It was well known that children were starving and freezing, fighting to stay healthy. Looking closely, this painting also makes certain facial features of the humans very distinct, along with darker-colored skin.

This poem was written as a greeting card sent by immigrants during the late 1930s. This is a primary source that can be analyzed similar to a journal entry, we see that immigrants were self-aware of their situation and tried their best to repress signs of being different. But we also see them trying to make the most of their situation because money doesn't define them as people.

Between 1930-1932 was the peak of immigration in the United States during the great depression. The infographic shows that around this time unemployment in the states also peaked. Immigrants' new lives in America continuously prove to show suffering, especially in the time of this economic crisis.

This political cartoon titled, “The Immigrant” depicts many people of higher standings and different backgrounds. We see the immigrant in the center portrayed carrying bags and luggage with a stern face. All around him, we see different perspectives of the “American dream”. For example the politician, the workman, and Uncle Sam. This is important to touch on because it really helps us identify the different outreaches and expectations America pushed on immigrants, whilst discriminating and enforcing unfair treatment.

This Political cartoon takes place closer to the time of the war and near the end of the Great Depression’s peak. The political cartoon mentions unemployment rates and how most immigrants ran to cities instead of farms. We can infer that this is because most factory jobs did not require skill. The cartoon also has the words, “flood of undesirable immigrants” furthermore adding to the discrimination and unfair treatment they faced.

If you look very closely at the photo's top section, you can see bodies pouring out of the truck. The need for work was desperate on farmland, especially since it was so much harder to keep up and know social changes. Immigrants were doing anything they could to get work.

This photo shows a family of Mexican decent being deported. In the 1930s, the Los Angeles Welfare Department began deporting hospital patients of Mexican descent. People with leprosy, old age, tuberculosis, paralysis, or mental illness were commonly deported. These actions were part of the “repatriation drives” during the Great Depression, which saw local governments deport up to 1.8 million people to Mexico.
