         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Skeletal System has a lot of different functions that are important to your body and heath. </p><p><br></p><p><strong>Major functions: </strong></p><p>1) Gives your body shape - Your skeleton supports the weight. it is also the anchor for all of the connective tissue </p><p> </p><p>2) Helps you move - Your joints, connective tissue and muscles work together to push  and pull parts of your body every time you move </p><p><br></p><p>3) Protects your organs - Your skull protects your brain, your ribs protect your lugs and heart and the vertebrae in your spine keeps your spinal cord safe. </p><p><br></p><p>4) Creates new blood cells - Your bone marrow produces red and white blood cells that your body needs to stay heathy </p><p><br></p><p>5) Storing important minerals  -  Your bones holds your body's supply of minerals like vitamin D and calcium   </p>]]></description>

Which includes bones, muscles, joints, nerves, ligaments, and tendons. Some treat a wide range of conditions and others specialize in one. </p></li></ul><p><strong>Specialties Include</strong> </p><ul><li><p>Foot and Ankle surgery</p></li><li><p>Hand and upper extremity surgery </p></li><li><p>Joint replacement</p></li><li><p>Orthopedic Oncology ( tumor and cancer care ) </p></li><li><p>Orthopedic trauma  </p></li><li><p>Pediatric orthopedic surgery </p></li><li><p>Spine surgery </p></li><li><p>Sports medicine </p></li></ul><p><strong>Medical Training</strong></p><ul><li><p>They complete up to 14 years of training which includes 4 years of undergraduate studies and 4 years in medical school. Next, they complete an orthopedic residency that typically lasts 5 years.  This focuses on hands-on learning in a medical setting. Orthopedists who want to sub-specialize complete a 1-2 year fellowship.          <title>Spiral Tibia Fracture </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>When I was 18 months old I fractured my tibia going down a slide with my mom. My foot got caught and the force was so strong it caused a spiral fracture in my tibia. The next day my mom took me to the doctor because I still couldn't walk and they gave me a cast I wore for six weeks. </p><p><br/></p><p><strong>What is a spiral fracture? </strong></p><p>A spiral fracture is a type of broken bone that happens when one of your bones is broken in a twisting motion. They create a fracture line that wraps around the bone like a corkscrew. </p><p><br/></p><p><strong>Toddler Fractures </strong></p><p>Toddler Fractures are a type of spiral fracture that usually affects children younger than three. They are the same as a regular fracture but almost always happen to children's shin bones (Tibia)      </p><p><br/></p>]]></description>
