The Lemon Grove Incident. The first successful school desegregation case in the U.S; local school board in Lemon Grove, CA tried to establish a separate school for Mexican American students. The presiding Judge ruled that children of Mexican origin could not be segregated under the laws of the state of California, because they were "of Caucasian race" and laws allowing segregation of Asian, Black, and Native American children did not apply to them
