         <title>Prenatal ( Conception to birth )</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Physical Development :&nbsp;<br>Start off as the size of a pea. At 8 weeks all body organs begin forming and by 12 weeks they are fully formed. By the end of the fetal development they're 6-8 lbs and 19-22 in.&nbsp;<br><br>Care Considerations :&nbsp;<br>Emphasize care of the mother ( developing humans are vulnerable to environmental factors ). Birth defects can occur if the mother inhales toxins, or consumes alcohol, nicotine, or drugs. Address the mothers unhealthy habits. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Infancy ( Birth to one years old )</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Physical Development :&nbsp;<br>Their birth weight triples or quadruples, teeth begin to erupt, length increases. Their muscular and nervous systems grow and over time they're able to raise their head, turn, and roll over.&nbsp;<br><br>Cognitive Development : Vocalization progresses and they're able to say several words. They learn to manipulate and recognize people and objects.&nbsp;<br><br>Erikson's Stage of Development : Trust vs. Mistrust. Infants are dependent on their caregivers for survival. If appropriate care is received, ( food, warmth, physical affection ) they will develop trust in their caregivers. If they fail to receive appropriate care, they will develop distrust toward their caregivers.&nbsp;<br><br>Care Considerations : Physical affection, tracking growth patterns, parents involved in care. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Physical Development :&nbsp;<br>Physical development progresses, the head no longer looks over sized. They are able to run, jump, and climb on their own. They have better control of their bladder and bowel movements.&nbsp;<br><br>Cognitive Development :<br>Vocalization progress as they acquire more language skills. They can now form sentences and understand simple instructions.&nbsp;<br><br>Erikson's Stage of Development :&nbsp;<br>Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt. Toddlers become confident in caring for themselves. When they are encouraged to learn independent skills, this results in autonomy. If their parents discourage or coddle them, they feel shame or doubt.&nbsp;<br><br>Care Considerations :<br>Use a firm, direct approach. Allow them to make choices. Use a game approach which improves cooperation. </div>]]></description>

They develop the ability to skip and jump in a coordinated manor.<br><br>Cognitive Development :<br>They develop the ability to speak in sentences and they become aware of others. They are able to count, recite the alphabet, and recall their address and phone number.<br><br>Erikson's Stage of Development :<br>Initiative vs. Guilt. Preschoolers are curious and want to learn new things. They seek new experiences and knowledge. If they are restricted or criticized by their caregivers, they will feel a sense of guilt.&nbsp;<br><br>Care Considerations :<br>Encourage verbalization skills. Praise good behavior, use distractions and encourage them to make decisions about painful procedures. </div>]]></description>

They're now well coordinated and have developed grace and agility.&nbsp;<br><br>Cognitive Development :<br>Their attention span increases and they develop morals and a logical sense of thinking.<br><br>Erikson's Stage of Development :<br>Industry vs. Inferiority. In this life stage people are heavily influenced by the opinions of their peers. If they're not accepted by them, they will lack self worth.<br><br>Care Considerations :<br>Explain things to them in correct terminology using words they understand. Define and enforce behavior limits.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Physical Development :<br>Their reproductive system matures and dramatic physical changes occur. Mood swings occur because of hormonal changes.&nbsp;<br><br>Cognitive Development :<br>Able to acquire large quantities of knowledge and use reasoning skills. They start to create their philosophy for life and create their future career.<br><br>Erikson's Stage of Development :<br>Identity vs. Role Confusion. They are curious and confused about the major changes happening to their body and their life as they move from child to adult. Peers still have a strong influence on them and they become resentful of adults'advice yet they need an adult they can trust. If they are unable to determine their identity, they will lack a sense of who they are.&nbsp;<br><br>Care Considerations :<br>Involve them in the decision making process. Don't talk about them where they are able to overhear. Determine how they learn best and teach them in the way they learn best. </div>]]></description>

Optimal cognitive functioning.<br><br>Erikson's Stage of Development :<br>Intimacy vs. Isolation. Young adults must transition from dependency to responsibility. They must make commitments to others (ex. get married, have children, etc ). Fear of commitment may result in isolation.&nbsp;<br><br>Care Considerations :<br>Involve significant other as appropriate. Watch body language for clues regarding feelings. Assess them during these stressful stages of life. </div>]]></description>

May develop chronic illness.&nbsp;<br><br>Cognitive Regression :<br>Motor sensory skills diminish and they begin to respond more slowly.&nbsp;<br><br>Erikson's Stage of Development :<br>Generativity vs Stagnation. Adults at this age begin to shift their concerns from themselves to the next generation. This is usually when people have a "midlife crisis". Realization of limitations and unmet goals can result in stagnation.<br><br>Care Considerations :<br>Encourage self care and lifestyle changes. Explore the concept of illnesses. </div>]]></description>

If they are satisfied with the events of their life, they feel ego integrity. If they are unsatisfied, they feel a sense of despair.&nbsp;<br><br>Care considerations :<br>If retired, encourage social activity. Assist with adjustment to new roles ( ex. becoming a widow or grandparent ). Encourage active learning, thinking, and use of memory skills. </div>]]></description>
