The three day disaster lead to fifty-five people being killed, almost 2,000 injured, 7,000 people being arrested, and led to nearly $1,000,000,000 in property damage, including of nearly 4,000 burning buildings. The four officers could be prosecuted for violating Rodney King's constitutional rights. Koon and Powell were eventually called to a federal jury that convicted them for violating King's rights and their unreasonable use of force under color of law. Although Wind and Briseno were acquitted, most civil rights advocates considered the mixed verdict a victory. As a conclusion on August 4th, Koon and Powell were sentenced to two and a half years in prison.

This mass hysteria started in Los Angeles, California on March 3, 1991. The people involved were four police officers and a African American motorist. The first thing reported was an 89 second video of the four police officers beating Rodney King with batons and kicking him long after he was capable of resistance.

The people who paid the price were the four police officers. They were charged with assault with a deadly weapon and an excessive use of force. Two of the officers, Powell and Koon, were both charged with filing false reports.
All of this made several riots break out. There was three days of disorder in Los Angeles. It killed 55 people, injured about 2,000, led to 7,000 arrested and there was nearly one billion in property damage. The governor had to declare a curfew.

It could have been altered by the two officers not beating Rodney King past the point of resisting. The events also could have been different had Rodney King not led them on a high speed chase. Another way the riots could have been prevented is if the verdict was mixed and not just one race.
