One reform that was made possible because of WWI was the addition of the 19th Amendment. Leading up to this point in time there had been a push to add an Amendment to protect women's right to vote but at no point was there an apparent chance of adding this amendment. Then WWI struck; men were taken out of their everyday civilian lives and were shipped off to war. To adjust women, among others, were thrown into the mix, having to work jobs that the now soldiers once held. This was a new obstacle, one unlike any other seen before and it was there success at adapting that really sold the idea of adding the amendment. With the women succeeding President Wilson and the members of Congress had been convinced to get the 19th Amendment added. With the right to vote secured, women took a great step forward towards equality, a step but could've never been taken, or at least at that point in time, had it not been for the US's involvement in WWI.

As a result of WW1, the reform movement of women's rights went to the next level. In 1920, the 19th amendment was ratified, which granted women the right to vote. This progressive movement was active for a long time, starting at the first national movement for women's rights at Seneca Fall in 1848. During the course of WW1, men were drafted to fight for America. Due to this, women were left to scoop up the jobs once done by men and President Wilson saw those acts of responsibility. Wilson saw that women were keeping affairs in order in America and helping the soldiers succeed. WW1 presented an opportunity for women to step up and prove themselves to the American government.

The progressive movement brought in ideas for change in government and economics, but world war 1 halted these reforms. Some Americans criticized capitalism and the form of industry during this time. Public opinion was shifted by muckrakers, who exposed business and government corruption. However, once world war 1 started, the government was quick to start materializing by getting as much resources as they can. During the war, the government focused upgrading industrial and military power and mostly ignored the proposed economic and political reforms. World War 1 kept the government away from these reforms since the United States couldn't deal with such big changes in the middle of war. These reformist ideas did come back after the war during the 1920s.

One way World War I was a setback for the Progressive movement was because of the views the Progressives had towards war. Liberal Progressives were against U.S. involvement in the war due to the sole purpose of Progressives believing war always had an economic motivation. With all the new laws being passed that did not allow any criticism of the decision to join the war, Progressives decreased in number because of they feared they would be thrown in jail because of the beliefs the Progressives held.

One way WWI was a setback for the Progressive movement was the migrations happening in America. Most Progressives were against immigration and wanted laws restricting it. Due to the war many jobs opened up in America causing people from Mexico to migrate to the U.S. to work in agriculture and mining. Not only was their people migrating outside of the U.S. but in the U.S. itself (Great Migration).

President Roosevelt wanted to end, or at least lessen, the ongoing conflict between workers and employers and the strikes. To compromise, he called for face-to-face discourse between union leaders and mine owners. He even went as far as threatening to send federal troops to take over coal mines in order to gain compliance from employers. This shift of favor from employers to workers allowed for the nine-hour workday and a ten percent increase in wages.
