-Coral reefs are habitats for millions of species.
-Coral reefs use carbon dioxide to help them create their reefs and if the reefs didn't use carbon dioxide, then the carbon dioxide would add up to massive amounts and affect us negatively.
-Coral reefs do an amazing job at slowing down waves that could possibly erode shorelines.
-Coral reefs have a part in the food web because so many fish live there and without it, there wouldn't be as many fish available.
-Coral reefs also play a role in our medicine. There are some drugs, that are made from coral reefs, that help with the treatment of cancer.

Possible Ways To Reduce Destruction Of Coral Reefs

There are some ways to reduce the destruction of coral reefs like making laws that prevent people from being near the reefs so no physical harm can be done to the reefs by the humans themselves. Other ways to reduce the damage are things we do on land. The NOAA's National Ocean service says that one way to help to reduce the damage is to conserve water because runoff and wastewater is able to go back into the ocean to cause harm to coral reefs and marine life.

Why Corals Under Stress Is Bad

When corals are under stress, they tend to expel their zooxanthellae. This is normally due to high temperatures. When corals expel the zooxznthellae, they go through a process of coral bleaching. Coral bleaching is when the algae, zooxanthellae, leaves the tissues which cause the corals to turn white.
