When I told my mom about a pain in my jaw area, the first thing she immediately got was her phone. And instead of searching for any medical websites or contacting a doctor, she opened tiktok and started inputting my symptoms to look through videos covering them. My mother soon came to the conclusion that I had lockjaw, which the tiktok she was watching identified it as a symptom of tetanus. But what I actually had was impacted teeth, which was soon realized by my mother two weeks later when we visited an orthodontist. For me what I experience here that’s common now in this world is how much people rely on apps like tiktok and facebook for a lot of important information, especially medical cases where simply finding a reputable site is already enough.

As transportation became more accessible to everyone, I have met a lot of tourists from other countries since I live in Binondo. I think one of the tourists that I had the most bad experiences with is Chinese tourists, as they have called me somewhat racist things in Chinese(which I understand) under their breath. There was also a sense of entitlement coming from them as they never said "thank you" whenever they asked anyone for help with directions or translation.

I recently had a chance to talk with my youngest cousin who is just 7 years old. We were having a conversation until he started using words I wasn’t familiar with like skibidi, sigma, drip, and fanum tax. Curious I got and asked him where he had learned these terms and he replied "on TikTok and Roblox". My cousin was so excited to show me how he plays Roblox, eagerly explaining his favorite games and asking me to download it so we could play together.

This conversation made me realize how different Gen Alpha is from my generation (Gen Z) especially in their dependence on and use of technology. This reminded me of how my parents struggled to limit our use of technology when we were younger. Little did I know that future generations would face even greater challenges in raising their children. Indeed, every generation has its unique differences.

My family once got lost in Japan, specifically we got lost trying to find the correct station we needed to go to. The railway system in Japan was honestly confusing as there were many train lines and I expected that we would have gotten lost at some point and it really did happen. A local seemed to notice our dilemma and approached us offering help. He seemed to look like he was going to work as he was wearing a suit and holding a work bag yet he still took his time to help my family. He led us the entire way to the station we needed to go to while chatting with us. This experience gave me a really good view on Japan.

I also had similar experience in Japan. it was back in 2018 and we went to japan for my sisters 18th birthday and we were looking for a place and my parents were starting to get confused on where we were though we were looking at a map we were still confused on where we were and my parents decided on asking a random person for help and when we did they explained which direction to go and whether we would turn left or right etc. when we were walking to where they told us it was around 15 mins since we started walking to the directions they told us we suddenly see him catch up to us and he explained that they made a mistake on the directions that they gave us and it was actually the opposite way and we were suprised because it was already quite a long way from where we met them to ask for directions and we were thinking on how kind they were to find us just to tell us they made a mistake. That left a really good impression of Japanese people to us because we were thinking that they went out of their way just to find us again and explain to us that they made a mistake and we were actually on the wrong way, and he explained again where we should go.

Another experience I had was when I was traveling with my family to China. Initially, I thought that the locals were kind of rude as they had the tendency to shove people when walking or had somewhat rude habits. Though when my family had a tour at a jewelry store, I changed my mind. The owner was very hospitable and very kind. He even offered all of the people in the tourist group a large discount. He really changed my mind on Chinese locals.

We were able to experience the world in three profound ways: through community, social media, and personal reflection. Community provides a sense of belonging and shapes our understanding of the world through shared values, traditions, and interpersonal connections. Social media and the internet, on the other hand, offer a global perspective, exposing us to diverse cultures, ideas, and events in real time. However, amidst the noise and influence of others, personal reflection becomes crucial. In moments of solitude, we process these external inputs, explore our thoughts, and form our own opinions on this matter. Together, these three experiences intertwine, enriching our perception of the world.

Travelling alone in Japan exposed me to cultural difference and must have been an enriching experience. Japan has such a unique culture, from its customs and traditions to everyday practices. Also, I notice that young kids can go to school alone by using train or walking. Lastly, I can see that most local are friendly and helpful.
