• Rooted in Islamic tradition as a divine gift from Allah.

Sources of Hikmah

1. Divine Revelation (Qur’an and Sunnah)

   • Example: Luqman was granted Hikmah by Allah.

2. Observation of Creation

   • Reflecting on nature, people, and events.

3. Experience and Reflection

   • Learning from life events and applying critical thought.

4. Learning from Scholars

   • Gaining knowledge from teachers and books.

Methods to Acquire Hikmah

1. Tazkiyah (Purification of the Soul)

   • Clean heart → clear wisdom

2. Tadabbur (Contemplation of the Qur’an)

   • Reflecting deeply, not just reading

3. Seeking Knowledge (‘Ilm)

   • Through learning, asking, and applying

4. Istighfar (Seeking Forgiveness)

   • Purifies the heart for wisdom to settle

5. Shura (Consultation)

   • Wisdom through shared insight

• Establishes the foundation of tawheed (oneness of God), which orients a person’s life toward truth and purpose.

• Creates clarity in understanding right and wrong based on divine guidance.

🔹 Source of Hikmah:

• Recognizing that life has a divine purpose.

• Builds a worldview rooted in submission to Allah, which is the root of all true wisdom.

• Encourages humility and reflection, which are prerequisites of hikmah.

2. Salah (Prayer)

Five daily prayers that connect a Muslim with Allah.

🔹 Reason:

• Constant remembrance of Allah cultivates mindfulness (taqwa).

• Trains the soul to be disciplined, focused, and humble.

🔹 Source of Hikmah:

• Increases emotional regulation, patience, and self-awareness.

• The recitation of the Qur’an during Salah embeds divine wisdom in the mind.

• The physical act of bowing/sujood reinforces humility, a key trait of the wise.

3. Zakat (Charity)

Annual almsgiving to the needy.

🔹 Reason:

• Purifies wealth and soul.

• Teaches empathy, fairness, and social justice.

🔹 Source of Hikmah:

• Helps understand the value of giving, the harms of greed, and the needs of society.

• Develops economic wisdom and social responsibility.

4. Sawm (Fasting in Ramadan)

Fasting from dawn to sunset during Ramadan.

🔹 Reason:

• Builds self-restraint, reflection, and empathy for the less fortunate.

• Disconnects from worldly desires.

🔹 Source of Hikmah:

• Trains control over the nafs (ego/self).

• Enhances ability to pause and reflect before action.

• Deepens understanding of spiritual and physical needs.

5. Hajj (Pilgrimage to Makkah)

A once-in-a-lifetime obligation for those able.

🔹 Reason:

• A journey of self-purification and submission.

• Breaks down barriers of race, wealth, and status.

🔹 Source of Hikmah:

• Encourages reflection on life, death, and accountability.

• Teaches unity, humility, patience, and gratitude.

• A deep experience of detachment from the world and attachment to Allah.

1. Purity (Wudhu/Ghusl)

   • Visual: Sparkling fountain with angels offering towels

   • "Just as water purifies the body, it prepares the soul."

2. Clean Clothing & Place of Prayer

   • Visual: A wardrobe with white garments and a prayer mat glowing under light.

3. Timeliness

   • Visual: A giant sundial and a clock tower – representing punctuality and respect for the appointed times.

Intention (Niyyah)

• Make the Niyyah sincerely for Allah alone.

• Visual: Your heart glowing inside your chest as you step through.

Mental Preparation

1. Emptying the Mind

   • Visual: A box where you place your thoughts and distractions before entering.

2. Tafakkur (Reflection)

   • Remember who you are about to stand before.

   • Visual: A scroll unrolling with the name “Allah” in gold.

3. Visualizing the Meeting

   • Imagine you are standing in front of your Lord.

Emotional Preparation

1. Tawadhu' (Humility)

   • Visual: A lowered head and a heart bowed in front of the Creator.

2. Hope and Fear (Rajaa’ & Khawf)

   • Visual: A scale—hope on one side, fear on the other—balanced perfectly.

3. Gratitude

   • Visual: A bowl filled with blessings you’ve received, being offered to you.

Posture & Focus During Salah

1. Focus Eyes – On the place of sujood (prostration)

2. Proper Recitation – With understanding and emotion

3. Calm Movements – No rushing, every movement with purpose

Reminders to Maintain Khushu’

1. Remember Death – “This could be your last prayer.”

2. Imagine Standing Before Allah – As if He sees you.

3. Avoid Distractions – Silence your phone, face a quiet place.

4. Shorten Your Gaze and Soften Your Voice.

After Salah

1. Remain Seated for Dhikr & Du’a

Hikmah from Salah

• Loyalty to Allah. praying 5 times a day remind us that Allah is our creator, hence showing our loyalty by performing ibadah

• We learn jihad, we struggle to perform salah with Khusyu', fighting against desire and shaytan

• Muhasabah, when we pray, we asked forgiveness from Allah making us realise our mistake and learn to improve ourself.

• Fasting trains the heart to be conscious of Allah in private and public.

• It builds awareness that Allah sees all your actions and intentions.

2. Ikhlas (Sincerity)

• It's a deeply personal act of worship, free from showing off.

• In Hadith Qudsi, Allah says: “Fasting is for Me, and I shall reward it.” (Bukhari & Muslim)

3. Sabr (Patience)

• Fasting teaches endurance: resisting hunger, thirst, anger, and desires.

• It strengthens the ability to wait, tolerate, and respond calmly.

4. Self-Control

• You control your thoughts, tongue, and actions.

• You avoid food, bad language, arguments, and even negative thoughts.

5. Gratitude (Shukr)

• After abstaining all day, even a sip of water feels like a great blessing.

• You appreciate food, time, health, and all that Allah provides.

6. Empathy and Compassion

• Feeling hunger and thirst helps you understand the suffering of the poor.

• Fasting promotes charity and generosity.

7. Forgiveness and Mercy

• Ramadan is a month of mercy and forgiveness from Allah.

• Fasting sincerely leads to purification of sins.

8. Spiritual Connection with Allah

• Fasting increases dhikr (remembrance), du‘a, Qur’an recitation, and worship.

• The heart becomes lighter and more focused on the afterlife.

9. Discipline and Time Management

• Following suhoor, iftar, and prayers on time teaches you structure.

• It also purifies the money we have by removing its negative effects.

• Even a tiny amount of sadaqah can be your protection on the Day of Judgment.

5. Brings Barakah (Blessing)

• You may not see the return immediately, but Allah promises to replace and increase.

6. Cures Illness and Hardship

• Giving sadaqah helps bring healing, ease in difficulties, and removal of calamities.

7. Brings Shade on the Day of Judgment

• On a day when no other protection exists, your charity gives you spiritual shelter.

8. Spreads Kindness and Love

• It's an act of empathy and mercy that strengthens society.

9. Every Act of Goodness Counts

• Smiling, removing harm from the road, helping someone — all are forms of sadaqah.

10. Increases Iman and Trust in Allah

• When you give, you're showing faith that Allah will provide more.

• It builds your tawakkul (trust) and reliance on Allah.
