1. PRESENTATION: The teacher presents the topic 'Types of Media' e.g. by using a poster from our MOOC Camp Materials - the teacher translates the new vocabulary with students
2. DISCUSSION:
a) The teacher starts the discussion about different types of media in our lives, asks students questions e.g. Do you watch TV? Do you listen to the radio? How often do you buy and read magazines/ newspapers, etc.
b) The teacher prepares with students a list of questions and writes them on the board - students make notes in their notebooks. Then students work in pairs and ask and answer the questions.

4. PROJECT - Interview
Students work in pairs or groups. One person in each group pretends that is a journalist or TV reporter. The rest of children answer journalist's questions. Students together prepare the list of questions and possible answers. They can make a video or present the interview in front of the class.

This activity I created for my 2nd grade students. The lesson started with Brain storm "What do you need for journey". Then children watched a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8Q7-HXM3Z8), analyzed the video (Who made this? / Why was this made?/ Who is this for?/ Is this video good for me?) and worked in groups to make sketch notes "My holiday bag".

After that we traveled around the world with an interactive map "Amazing journey" to practice vocabulary. Finally, pupils made flags of some countries with Lego.

Finally, students should prepare Flipgrid reflection using colours related to this holiday. Students should wear green clothes.

The aim of the whole activity is to prepare students to learn about Irish tradition.

Environmental Issues: Debates

This is the presentation to be displayed on the screen during class debates. I have tried this activity with Grade 10 students. We started the topic Environmental Issues and discussed Renewable and Non-renewable sources of energy (Upstream B2, Unit 4).

We have studied vocabulary in Quizlet, played Kahoot on the topic and came to the idea of organising "Nuclear Power Plant Pros & Cons Debates" in the form of Role-Play. The Special Session of City Council with the main question of the agenda - "Should we approve a construction of a nuclear power plant in Tallinn?" was held in the classroom.

There were three well-prepared groups of students: City Council members and representatives of the Construction company vs. determined eco-activists with ready-made posters. The jury monitored the process and assessed the arguments and the performance of the participants. It was lively and emotional 90 min. classroom event. Spoiler: the final decision turned out to be for construction, unfortunately :)

Carefully designed preparation stage took almost a week (role assignment, preparing intro speeches and arguments, making posters etc.). I put the preparation tasks into Google Classroom for each group separately to enhance collaboration and creativity.

Those were just a few words about this interesting project admired by my students and me. Now I'm going to update it implementing new skills acquired during the course about the debates organisation, as well as about using media in class in general.

The idea how to make essay writing fun with using Flipgrid:

1. Read the essay question and think carefully what your arguments would be.
2. Pair up with a friend form your English class and look at the worksheet together.
3. Check whether the pictures represent any of the ideas that you had thought of.
4. Now note key words/ideas and practice the voice over. Recommended time for the practice run: 15 min (too long of a time will make it sound over-prepared).
5. Share your "voice over" here.

Funny adds discussion

Students (year 6) were asked to watch sets of funny adds and later on they were discussing thier favourite ones. THey really liked it and they searched for more .... at homes, next lessons they wanted ( and they did it) to present theirs. It was a good lesson with discussion, almost like a debate.

The topic of the activity revolves around environmental issues.

In the first part of the activity students watch a video about the causes of environmental degradation and possible solutions. They post their answers on Menti.
In the second half, students work in groups and discuss the ways they can help the environment. They complete an online editable mind map with their ideas (the link here is just for viewing). Afterwards, they present their work to the rest of the group. The mind-maps might be printed out and hung on the classroom wall.
