They need to be challenged in order to keep learning.
In the video I liked that she made herself one of the students, and turned the kids into teachers to get them discussing and learning.

It is important to set and maintain high expectations because students are likely to learn up to what you believe of them. I really enjoyed the speaker's Shakespeare activity at the beginning of the video, and it has inspired me to strive to try and tackle higher-level concepts in my class by framing them in a way that appeals to the student and trusting in their innate desire to learn.

Setting high expectations lets someone know that you see something in them that they don't feel they have in themselves. It would be hard to challenge yourself to grow somewhere if you weren't sure where you needed to go.
In the video I was inspired by the idea that student wont rise to the challenge just because you tell them that they can, but that success needs to be an experience of their own achievement.

It is important to set and maintain high exceptions because students need a challenge. They need to be moved out of their comfort zones, and try. If we don't have high expectations then our students won't want to try or try to achieve their fullest potential. One thing that sparked my interest in the video was the example the speaker gave about teaching her students Shakespeare. I think it was really awesome how everyone thought she was setting too high expectations, but through her teaching she nailed it, and they learned the skill!

It's important to set and maintain high expectations because often times students underestimate what they are capable of, and they haven't been pushed or challenged beyond those preconceived notions.
I was very interested to find that keeping high expectations for students spanned across all cultures and socio-economic status'.

It inspires higher order thinking which helps prepare students for high school, college, career. The Cambodian girl in the video was inspiring, the teacher spent time outside of school with her to help push her and get her outside her comfort zone.

1. It is important to set high expectations because students will rarely exceed the expectations set for them. They also need positive reinforcement that they can achieve high expectations and if the teacher sets that, then students are receiving positive reinforcement.

2. What sparked my interest from the video is letting the students be the teacher so you influence them to correct the teacher and not be hesitant to do that.
