The bacteria is transmitted through rat fleas and rodents. The fleas receive it from rodents, ad when they come in contact with humans, the bacteria is passed on . The bacteria has an incubation period of 2-8 days. Then, the infected experiences a fever of 103 degrees Fahrenheit to 106 degrees Fahrenheit. Other symptoms are convulsions, vomiting, intolerance to light, delirium, and pain in the limbs. After the bacteria spreads, it finds a lymph node and it makes it swell, become painful, and dark in color. It becomes the size of a small egg or apple as it continues to duplicate. Shortly after, the person starts to cough up blood and dies.

The organism is a rod shaped , Gram-negative Bacteria. It reproduces Asexually using Binary fission. The Cell copies into two daughter cells with the same DNA. This bacteria however reproduces very rapidly and the population can double in size in about an hour.

The Cell wall of the bacteria contains Peptidoglycan and a Plasma Membrane. It is rod shaped and classified as a Coccobacillus. It moves and spreads by gliding onto hosts. It's size is 4.65 Mb and It is dependent on the genetic makeup of the host to spread. The capsule is a polysaccharide layer . It is special due to the fact that it has a combination of mutations at a unique rate that allows it to spread through many means. This contributes to its deadliness.
