After 20 Years Characterization p7 by Samantha Zilai-brattain

Students will go into the text of After 20 years and find an example of characterization/character development. Then students will refer back to the slideshow and identify what type of characterization the author is using to develop the character. Then the students will put together a post that 1)states what character is being described 2) provides the example from the text that is describing him 3)states how the character is being developed (speech, appearance, thoughts, etc.)

The characterization of Jimmy Wells, the officer that was talking to Bob is Private Thoughts. I say this because he felt so bad on needing to arrest him that he left to go have someone else arrest Bob because he didn't have the heart to do it and while the civilian was arresting Bob he wrote then told the civilian to give the note to Bob which read "Bob: I was at the appointed place on time. When you struck the match to light your cigar I saw it was the face of the man wanted in Chicago. Somehow I couldn't do it myself, so I went around and got a plain clothes man to do the job." meaning that while he was talking to him he had private thoughts about how he can arrest Bob without him doing it and betraying his old friend.
