What does it mean to be a global citizen? Feeling that this planet is our home, the home of every living thing on it, and that we all have to do our best to keep our home clean, alive and well.
What would be a better place for this discussion than an enchanting little waterfall in the heart of a large natural park, surrounded by rainforest. We got to swim and shower under the waterfall, which is said to have a healing effect - and it did feel extremely energising.
We also enjoyed coconuts straight from the woods, marvelled at the lush vegetation around us, and saw curious but shy mangusts interested in our lunch at the picnic area by the river.
All this abundance and beauty enhanced the exchange of ideas on global citizenship and what it entails, and how to pass it on to our students - and everyone else - in a good way.
Citation du jour: “Everyone of us has to take into account the impact of our actions on the planet. There are people who need to progress, who need more, but we in the Western world have too much. We need to learn how to live better with less,” said Yann Arthus-Bertrand, a French ecologist and photographer, when talking about his film "Planète Océans" in 2012. It is essential that we all feel and take responsibility of our home.
The photo I chose represents balance, harmony, and respect. People enjoy building these piles of stones in different scenic sites on Earth. Would you enjoy piling up stones in a closed space? Not in the same way. In a place like this, you are one living creature on the planet, playing in harmony with nature and enjoying its beauty as much as your little creative activity.
Again another day to be thankful for, with good vibes and things to do and see and learn from. Thank you planet!

Today’s lesson was about global citizens and how we as teachers can bring international learning and global thinking into our schools. It is a big baggage to think about. Lot of responsibilities and aspects. What are global values that combines global communities and global people or are there any? In the end we already all are global citizens. Think globally - act globally. Teacher’s role or job is to guide students do them both. For me today’s punch line was, “Concentrate into the things you can influence or make a difference.” Today’s color for me was green as is this photo from our “jungle like” classroom environment.

,,To know, to care, to act" - it's like holy trinity for global citizen of our days. These are three things which at first we should learn ourselfs as a teachers and after that to enable to live like that our students. During this session I was mostly reflecting about curriculum, based on knowledge and the other one, which is based on general competences, which are nessesary for responsible beeing in XXIst century. What is the balance between them? Is there a balance? Do we teach for the grades, for exams, or are we focusing on an active citizen of a global world? I think it is a big challenge for the scools and for the teachers: to be more open-minded, to care about things that surrounds you. ,,Be the change you want to see in the others" (Mahatma Gandhi).

What does it mean to be a Global Citizen?
The excursion that brought ua to the Cascade aux Ecrevisses today gave us a good inside about the urban live. The mostly untouched rainforest is very important not only for the people who live on the irlands but also for the whole world. If nature gets out of balance in one part of the world it has an impact on other parts of the world too. Everyone should be aware of this all the time. Every single person can make the world a better place by starting to make himself aware about his own ecological footprint that he leaves. A teachers assignment should be to make the students aware of it.

The main idea that struck me most today is that we are all citizens of the world. Everyone's choices often affect not only their own lives, their surroundings, but also other people on Earth. Human rights, environmental protection, climate change, poverty and social exclusion reduction, sustainable development, inter-state conflicts - these topics extend from personal and national identity to the global level. The phrase "Think globally, act locally" is very relevant in this context. Everyone always has the opportunity to behave responsibly, to choose how to live, how to be everyday. Teachers can raise children's awareness by encouraging them to care for their immediate environment and to think about the people around them, which will strengthen their values in developing responsible people. The teacher should focus on the following lines of action in developing a responsible personality: to know (to promote knowledge, information), to care (to enhance values, emotion, empathy), to act (to promote initiative, an active role in choosing how to live responsibly in a world of global challenges). We can take care of the world by taking small steps from ourselves. It is very important to teach children to think critically, to ask questions, to find solutions in consultation with others and in cooperation.

We have been in the center of a rainforest and get part of it by swimming under a waterfall, feeling the wind on our skin, listen the noises of the nature and watching the different animals like yellow eyed birds and mangues. In such a situation it is easy to understand how sensitiv our planet is. Everything we do has an influance to everything in the world. To make our students sensitiv for this shoul be our profession. If we want to make our world better and save the planet, we have to start in our direct soroundig. What can each person do at this moment? Just start with this... Think about what is possible for yourself to do now?

What does it mean to be a global citizen? This is what we learned today. The rain forest is such a good place to get even closer to our fragile planet. The most important is that we know, care and act for personal growth because we are all global citizens, no matter if active or passive. I like the conception of being a guest, not a tourist when you visit a country. As a tourist you have another responsibility. Wherever you go you have to take responsibility and always respect the host. As a global citizen you don‘t have to change the world, but you have to do something now.
Choose the problem which is closer to your heart and go for it!
