Like Rome unemployment is a big problem in our society. In one month the economy plunged deeper into crisis, losing 20.5 million jobs.the Labor Department said the actual unemployment rate is 20 percent.Nearly 11 million people reported working part time because they couldn’t find full-time work because of the pandemic.Job losses have encompassed the entire economy, affecting every major industry's.Areas like leisure and hospitality had the biggest losses, but even health care shed more than a million jobs.Low-wage workers, including many women and members of racial and ethnic minorities, have been hit especially hard.If you want to learn more about this go to a website called www.nytimes.com this is where I got all my information.

A possible reason that Rome fell was the high growth in unemployment. With rising prices and higher taxes, poorer farmers had no choice but to sell their farms and look for a better paying jobs, such as working for richer people as they would provide them with food and no taxes. But, richer people had moved farther away from Rome in hopes of building their own small civilizations. This led to even less people working in their fields or working in general. Rome now had very little food production (as most of them had moved out) and also high amounts of poor people struggling to find a job that payed good. According to History.com, "With its [Rome's] economy faltering and its commercial and agricultural production in decline, the Empire began to lose its grip on Europe."

Sustainable Development Goals #8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

The Rome Problem of Unemployment relates to the 8th Sustainable Development Goal, which is, "Promote sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all." This is the best match because it talks about how everyone gets a job, or as stated decent work and there was lots of unemployment in Rome at the time. This SDG is really focused on the economy which would have helped Rome to defend itself because they would have enough money to hire more workers, get stronger equipment, and/or train more soldiers to defend.
