Musical chairs

Rajeczki Amalia Patricia -“Curcubeul Copiilor” Kindergarten in Arad

Musical chairs
The musical chairs game is a classic, simple and engaging activity: children dance around chairs placed in a circle (for \(n\) participants), and when the music stops, they have to sit down quickly. Whoever remains standing is eliminated, a chair is removed, and the process continues until only one winner remains.
Rules and conduct:
Preparation: Place the chairs in a circle, with the backs facing inwards, always having one less chair than the number of children.
Music: Put on a rhythmic song while the children dance or walk around the chairs.
Stopping: When the music suddenly stops, each child must take a seat.
Elimination: The player who failed to find a free seat is eliminated from the game.
Completion: After each round, one more chair is removed, regardless of how many children have been eliminated.
Winner: The last child remaining seated in the last available seat is declared the winner.

The answers he can give are different, such as:

– I'm putting on my pants! or I'm putting on my shoes! or I'm shaving my mustache! or I'm putting on my hat!

The answers depend on each child and their readiness.

When the wolf answers

– I'm taking my stick and chasing you!

Then the wolf starts chasing them and the children scatter and run, shouting:

– Wolf, wolf, catch me.if you can, catch me! Any child he catches is out of the game. The game ends when the wolf manages to catch all the children.

Hopscotch Game

Popovici Tatiana Adriana - „Curcubeul copiilor” Kindergarten in Arad, România

Hopscotch is a traditional movement game with simple rules that helps develop balance, coordination, attention, and spatial awareness. At the same time, it teaches children to wait their turn, follow instructions, and control their bodies while moving.

How the game is played:

A hopscotch grid with numbered squares is drawn on the ground. The players decide the order of play. In turn, each child throws a small stone into the indicated square and moves along the grid by hopping, usually on one foot. The child must avoid touching the lines and stay inside the squares. If the child completes the path correctly, they continue the game by moving on to the next square.

Rules:

A child loses their turn if:

-they fail to throw the stone into the correct square;

-they step on a line or outside the grid;

-they lose their balance and put both feet down (when hopping on one foot).

If the stone lands on a line, the throw must be repeated.

Adaptation of the game to the children’s age and development

The game was adapted to the children’s age group (4–6 years old) and their level of motor development. The hopscotch grid was simplified in order to increase the chances of success and maintain the children’s motivation.

In the adapted version, the main objective was to complete the path using correct jumps. The stone was not picked up during the course but was collected at the end, only after the child had performed the jumps correctly and followed the established rules. This modification reduced the difficulty of the game (bending + balance), prevented frustration, and emphasized movement control and rule-following.

Capture the Flag

Capture the Flag (literally “flag stealing”) is a traditional children’s game usually played outdoors or in a large enough space. It is played by two teams with the same number of players, plus one additional person — the flag holder.

Organization of Players and Playing Area

A straight line is drawn in the center of the playing field, and two other parallel lines are marked at equal distances from it to define each team’s home area.
The players of each team line up along their home line, facing the opposing team. Each player is assigned a number in sequential order starting from one end of the line (the first player is number 1, the next is number 2, and so on).

The flag holder stands halfway between the two teams, holding the flag with an outstretched arm.

At this point, the flag holder calls out any number. Both players from the two teams corresponding to that number must run toward the flag holder to try to capture the flag. There are two ways to earn a point:

Grab the flag before the opponent does and return to your home line without being tagged, or

If the opponent grabs the flag first, tag them before they reach their home line.

The player’s team that successfully captures the flag earns one point.
After a point is scored, the flag is returned to the flag holder, who then calls another number.

The team that earns the most points wins the game.
