<title>Case study A1. Oral History of the Rise and Fall of the Berlin Wall. The author is the coordinator of a student project at an American University in Berlin. It deals with the experiences of Germans on both sides of the Berlin Wall, which have been collected in the form of oral histories.2.	The time span is the period between the post-1945 political developments, the fall of the Berlin wall in 1989 and the difficulties of integrating East Germans in the period after reunification.3.	In addition to the qualitative data which have been transcribed, quantitative data and photographs have been used as sources for the book. Along with the book, a video-film has been created. The book is a conventional history book, with an introduction, thematic chapters, with running text interspersed with quotes from the oral histories recordings, graphs and pictures.4.	When considering the modes of communication, although the source is aural, the dominant mode is textual, with some images and graphs. As a resource available on the web, it is typical for the Web.1. phase, when it became possible to upload a PDF (Portable Digital Format) and make the book accessible to everyone. Yet there were only limited possibilities to make the core data accessible, the recorded stories themselves. This was related to issues of sustainability: who would take care of a web-based searchable database accessible to all Internet users. In addition, there were also unsolved issues related to privacy and copyright.5.	It is available as a PDF, but its real status is a paper book. If all the underlying data would be available, it could be turned into a web resource.</title>
