https://youtu.be/tVlcKp3bWH8
I have used this song in my circle time before when teaching preschool. I think its very important for the children to greet each other in a positive way each morning. This song uses words like "I'm Great!" so the children can get practice of talking about how they feel and emotions.
My typical schedule for a morning circle time is as follows:
1) Greeting: Can be a song, fingerplay, etc that helps the teacher being able to greet the students and allowing for them to greet each other as well
2) Roll Call: Take attendance. If any students are missing for the day, I have done a song called "Wish you well" This allows for the students to identify who is missing from school that day and having a chance to wish them well/get better/etc.If students were missing the previous day, I have done a routine called "Butterfly Kiss" One of your student helpers goes to the child who had been gone and says, "You've been gone, you've been missed, where would you like your butterfly kiss?" The helper then gives them a kiss whenever they chose.
3) Calendar/Days of the Week/Months of the Year, Counting- I have this part very flexible and changes depending on the age group and how much time you plan to use for circle time.
4) Classroom Jobs: Go over/Assign jobs to the students. If it is monday you will be handing out new jobs and the rest of the days of the week will be used as reinforcement so they are always aware of the important jobs they have for the week (s).
5) Show & Tell- I have done this once a week and pick students to share something special that they brought from home.
6) Wrap up and Transition. I try to keep circle time to 15 minutes or less. You can decide what time frame is right for the different ages that you teach but I have found 15 minutes or less to be the most successful for various age groups.
This is my complete run-down of a circle time.
Elizabeth Tagge

I would have them all go sit at the circle rug and finish the song when everyone is ready than I would begin the day. First off we would start the morning with everyone’s going around the room and state 1 thing they did the night before. When everyone is done we would move onto picking the daily jobs and helpers for the day. Next we are would do what day month and year it is. I would also play the days of week song. We would than talk about the weather and what the weather is outside. We would have a poster board of all shorts of different weathers and take a clothes pin and have the weather helper of the day pin the clothes pin on what the weather is for the day when everyone agrees. We would end on what letter, color or number we would be taking about on the day. Than we would proceed on learning for the day.

It's possible that my circle times will fluctuate because children of different ages may have 2-4 circle periods. Volunteers in every circle, however, is something I would include. I'd write each child's name on popsicle sticks and draw names for questions since young children, such as those in preschool, enjoy being called on and assisting in any way they can. After circle time, have fun transition moments where each child tells you something to be dismissed, such as how to spell their name, their age or birthday, their parents' names, their favorite color, and so on.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hqp86nvGecA&t=70s

A way you can connect with these kiddos is by just simply letting them talk and tell you all about everything.
For me as a social worker, it might take some time for the child to open up, depending on what the situation is or what my purpose of the meeting may be. I would encourage them to tell me about their interests or just have a normal conversation with them. the important thing is to get on their level. Physically and emotionally. that will help create a stronger bond and would then in turn help resolve whatever the issue may be.

If you have a song with claps, turns, and actions that kids can follow, it can be a great way to introduce them to circle time. The song can also be a queue to get them to leave their play station and start gathering around the mat. A song like "head and shoulders, knees and toes" can be much more interesting than a simple song with no action. It keeps children interested in the "game" played in the song. They practice gross and fine motor skills. We then proceed to do our greeting thankful song! After that we do learning songs that allow the to focus while sitting. And finally we end our circle time usually with some active movement dance songs to help them burn so extra entertainment and excitement. I’ve taken a picture of one of my very favorite circle songs. A huge part of our Montessori curriculum is teaching our students more than just learning in the English Language and I love that we invite all cultures and diversity!!!

Before we start circle time (large group) I like to begin or unite with our letter of the week. For example, this weeks letter is P. I created a frog street binder with all the images and lyrics to each letter of the alphabet for a visual as we are singing the song. Each month we have a “theme”. Last month we discussed water pipes. The goal for this particular large group, is for children to understand the concept of how water travels in pipes to get to the wanted destination. We created our very own water pipe system. The children each had a turn to place their pipe where they thought was best, with lots of trial and error, we poured a cup of water and watched as the water traveled all the way to the end where it came out our makeshift sink. The children were ecstatic! It was a very rewarding experience to watch as their little faces lit up when the water came out the other side. To end circle time or connect, I like to our “cranky cream” song. I give each child a dollop of our cranky cream (Johnson Johnson calming lotion). We rub our hands together then pull on each finger as we sing:
“Bye bye crankies” (x3) “it’s time for you to GO!” The children then throw the crankies into the air. This really sets the mood before we transition to free choice and the kiddos love it.

Circle time for my classroom is pretty structured. Since our ISBE program morning circle time is only 15 minutes we try implement a daily routine that the children follow. We first do our morning attendance, health check, and morning prayer to get our day started. We then say our daily affirmations, this helps the children start their day on positive. We do the day of the week (if it is a holiday we talk about the holiday), we do the weather, practice our days of the week and months in the year. The children pick one color and that will be our color of the day. Next, we introduce the study to the children and the question of the day. This allow the children to start to warm up and start using their critical thinking skills. Once the question of the day is complete we talk about the expectations of the day and sing the good morning song. This reminds the students that we are getting prepared to transition to the next phase of our day.

Darneka Coats

It’s a butterfly poster on a stick and if you were absent the previous day the students sing to you “ you were gone you were missed, where would you like your butterfly kiss?” The students then chooses where they’d like their kiss. We then breathe together as a class and do an “I love you ritual” after that we all recite the kindness pledge for our classroom and then we move onto our large group and small group activities for the day.

When all the children have joined the group play a game with the music like freeze dance or sing an action song while doing the actions. Do calendar by having a child place a star on the current day and another child place a symbol for the weather. As a group say the day of the week, month, day, and year. Talk about the letter of the day and the sound it makes. Look at objects that begins with that letter. Read a book that corresponds with the letter of the day. Discuss the letter and it's sound and discuss what is happening in the story. Close out with a math lesson such as naming shapes. The shapes can also have colors that can be named as well.
