"One way I will incorporate SEL into my classroom as a student teacher will be listening to students' stories without judgment, allowing students to reflect after the lesson, doing mindful activities such as breaks, giving them access to a calming corner, going for a walk, etc. and finally, I will be asking students questions about themselves. Getting to know your students is an important key as a teacher because you'll learn about them outside of school. You'll start to adapt, learn, grow and make connections with your students easily."

"I want to do more friendly games that'll get the students used to everyone. In my classroom right now, my CE will occasionally do SEL games which the students love because it lets them work together. Everyone works together and everyone feels like they are a part of something. This is something that I want to incorporate so the students can feel that sense of belonging."

"I think SEL is very important for MLL's. They are new students trying to adjust to a new classroom and school environment, while also working towards English profiency. MLL students might fall behind in their classes just due to the fact that English is not their primary language. Teachers should always be supporting their students and incorporating SEL into their lesson plans. I think teachers need to do more research on SEL so that way they can always incorporate it into the classroom, so that they are meeting their students emotional needs as well and not just their academic needs."

"I now realize how heavily they are tied together; we do a lot of work with SEL and MLL individually but we haven't done enough work with the two in relation to each other."

"I am fortunate that I have had the opportunity to work one-on-one with the MLL in my classroom this past semester. Some excellent skills and resources that my CE has provided me with when working with the MLL student including a device designated for translating, mood charts, and vocabulary lists with words and pictures in her native language. When I take over as student teacher in the spring, I will continue to make sure that my MLL feels supported in and outside the classroom by checking in with her multiple times a day, working one-on-one with her to ensure she continues to build her skills, and using voice to text translation while teaching whole group lessons."

"This presentation has highlighted how important SEL is for MLLs. I knew that SEL was important to incorporate in classrooms for all students, but after viewing this presentation, I now know how critical SEL is for MLLs. These students go through so much both at home and at school and it is our job as teachers to help them."

By doing this, it allows students to share anything they would like to with the class, without any judgement and allows for students to get to know one another. For MLLs, it can help them make relationships with students in the class and it allows for the teachers to get to know them as well."

"I feel very bad for MLL students as oftentimes they experience a lot of stress both in and out of the classroom. I believe that SEL is very important in the classroom. If teachers are given this professional development on SEL and are taught how to help these students and demonstrate care towards them, then this will work to ensure that these students are given the right resources to be successful."

"One way that I would plan to incorporate SEL into my classroom would be to give my students a few surveys throughout the year that they can take home. That way I can get to know more about my students and their families lives outside of the classroom."

"I think it is very important for all students, but MLL students already feel that they are left out because they do not understand their surroundings in the same way. It is important to create a warm and inclusive environment to combat that."
